Purpose:

The potential of interactive multimedia in online education has been recognised for some time. It promises the opportunity to present educational material in an engaging and motivating manner, with diverse combinations of text, colour, images, sound, music, animation and video. However, many questions remain unanswered.

Therefore, the evaluation of educational interactive multimedia must be both iterative and intensive, and developers, designers, teachers and students must be both discerning and purposeful in their use of the media.

The purpose of this web site it to provide criteria for such discernment, and a rating tool for the evaluation of multimedia web sites.

 Criteria:

  • Usability

  • Sequencing

  • Engagement

  • Learning Enhancement

Go to Evaluation Criteria for details.

 Examples:

An evaluation of the following 2 sites is included using the rating instrument.
